Happy Fathers Day!

Happy Fathers Day to all the fathers out there. I know so many amazing men that are wonderful fathers too. My Dad, my very special husband and my brothers are amazing Dads. They love their families and are great providers and wonderful examples for their kids.

My Dad is a plain and simple man who doesn't ever pretend to be something he isn't, what you see is what you get. He's from a time when many husbands divorced their wives and the kids at the same time. He has said many times that one of his greatest accomplishments is that he didn't divorce his kids. He was a great dad that was always there for us. We got to spend every other weekend with him and we had fun shooting guns, fishing and spending time at the park. It has been my honor to care for him as he slowly went blind and has completely lost his sight and since a heart attach has taken its toll on his health. Love you Dad!

Roger is the most amazing example of what a dad should be. He loves his kids above all else, except the Lord and has sacrificed for his family is ways we don't even realize. He's always there for them and even when he's tired he helps Tyler around his house and yard and will do whatever "Daddy Do" list Erica has for him when we're at her apartment. We've always appreciated him but this May he gave us a scare when he had chest pains and thru a visit to the ER, an ambulance ride to Mercy hospital and an angiogram we were so happy to find out his heart is in good shape. But the scare of losing him has made us appreciate and love him all the more. He is a man worthy of respect, admiration and great love from his family. We love you Roger!

Happy Anniversary

Today is our anniversary. Where has 30 years gone? We were so young when we married, I was 18 and Roger was 24. When your crazy in love you don't see a thing wrong with graduating from high school on Wednesday and getting married on Saturday! Oh My, what were we thinking.

But some how it worked for us and the Lord has blessed us! It hasn't always been easy but its always been worth it. We tell so many kids thinking about getting married that it's hard work. REALLY hard work. But when you get to the other end of a rough patch it makes it so worth it. We're closer, more in love and we've grown together when we work thru a difficult time together. Some times I think you have to be crazy stupid in love to make it thru the hard parts. And the Lord has blessed us with being Crazy Stupid in LOVE with each other!

Creativity: Now and Always

This is a letter that our Close To My Heart  founder Jeanette Lynton wrote in regards to recent news about the paper crafting industry.

Creativity: Now and Always

"Within the past month, paper crafters have heard and seen some hard news—well-known industry names have announced bankruptcy or removed their scrapbooking lines. It may leave many wondering what the future is for our beloved pursuit of memory keeping and creativity. As the CEO and Founder of Close To My Heart, I have many thoughts on the topic and wanted to share a few with you.

First off, preserving our memories is NOT a fad. It's one of the most important things we do in our journey here on earth, and it's as key as breathing and as sustainable as family. In the past few years, we have seen scrapbooking come into the spotlight and many flocked to set up shop and design products to capitalize on it. While we at Close To My Heart have welcomed the focus on scrapbooking over the past few years, we know that even when the hubbub fades, the core and relevance underneath the hype remains. I have been in the industry for nearly 30 years—LONG before it was "trendy"—and plan to be in this essential industry for decades to come.

Because Close To My Heart will be here for the long-term, we have run our business differently than many others. We are not leveraged to the hilt or financed by outside investors. I have always believed in organic, cash-based growth, and the simple provident rule of spending less than I earn. It's a principle I've applied to business and it's ensured that Close To My Heart operates profitably. We have been profitable month after month, year after year. Our credit rating is excellent, and this protects our commitment to delivering a wealth of diverse, beautiful products at competitive prices while providing secure commission checks for our Consultants, employees, and vendors.

Second, yes, the industry is changing. I welcome and embrace that! In my 30 years in business, I have seen many changes and they almost always yield fresh directions, new products, and a new crop of crafters. Change always brings opportunity! I have long said that as long as little girls are born with hands, they will want to create. I am grateful to be a part of such an important contribution to society and know that this will continue.

Ultimately, I invite everyone—whether you are an existing Consultant or customer, a past purchaser, or even if you have never purchased a Close To My Heart product—to get to know us again for the first time. Close To My Heart is strong. Papercrafting, memory keeping, and creativity are more important than ever before and we provide unique, diverse products for every style and ability of crafter.  Close To My Heart is committed to scrapbooking, and if it's a passion you share, then YOU ARE WELCOME HERE."

I'm so proud to be a part of this company that has a founder and leader like Jeanette. Her heart is always focused on the well being of the people in her company and she has the business mind to run a very successful and thriving company.

Later Sk8r Card

I knew I liked this paper when I first saw it in the Idea Book. It's papers are very distressed and rugged, just like little boys! I needed a very quick card for my nephew and although I haven't shared all my layouts on here I've used all of my Later Sk8r paper and all I had left were scraps. So I gathered all the scraps I had and came up with this card.

If your short on your favorite paper but want to use up the scraps like I did you can make your paper go farther by using cardstock. The base of my card is grey cardstock because the grey diamond paper on the bottom wasn't long enough to fit across the whole card. I also put a small strip of white cardstock between the grey diamond paper and the green patterned paper because I was short on the green patterned paper and I really wanted to use both papers on this card.  I think the white strip ended up working great, it gives a visual divider between the two patterned papers. And it brings in a third section of white which visually balances the card. I added a few green and blues sparkles because you just can't have enough sparkle!

Happy Mothers Day

I hope everyone had a Happy Mothers Day. My wonderful family made sure I had a great day. Saturday started with Hubbalicious bringing me a beautiful bouquet of roses.

Sunday both of the kids were here and we had a great breakfast together and we were able to get some pictures outside. It was windy and very chilly but we braved the cool weather. The kids usually hate doing pictures but on Mother's Day and my birthday they indulge me with just a few eye rolls.

We were all trying to smile and not shiver so we got the pictures done as soon as possible. We even got the dogs in the picture too.

My family knows my favorite candy and I usually get a bag of Lindor Chocolates but this year they hadn't talked to each other about what they were getting me.

And thats how I you get 9 bags of chocolates for Mothers Day!

I was able to spend some time with my Mom today too. She had fun telling stories about when I was young.

She always has selective memory when she tells stories of when us kids were young.  :) We get a good laugh from it everytime.
I hope you all had a wonderful time with your families!
