Decembers Here

Happy December 2nd everyone. I'm not sure how December got here so quickly but its snuck up on me again. I like to greet December with my house deep cleaned and decorated for Christmas but that didn't happen this year. We've spent a week in the hospital with a family member in Illinois. Nights at a hotel and long days at the hospital really zap your energy so when we came home all we wanted to do was sleep. We were able to get our family Christmas tree up and decorated while the kids were home. Made this Momma's heart sing to have us all together again this year to decorate the tree. It really is the small things I'm thankful for this year. We were able to spend Thanksgiving Day with family, our Thanksgiving dinner was at the hospital cafeteria but we were together. This has been a year to be Thankful for our health and our loved ones. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving with family. Now that we all have our many blessings fresh in our minds we can enjoy all that December and Christmas time have in store for us.

Be Thankful Burlap Bag

When I saw this cute burlap bag design in the Close To My Heart Idea Book I knew I had to make one. But I couldn't stop at one- I made 3! And I love them all. The My Creations Burlap Drawstring Bags come in a package of three so of course I had to use them all.

The turkey cut is super easy using the Artise Cricut Cartridge. And the Perfect Fit- Thanksgiving Stamp Set finishes it off perfectly. I'm sure I'll be using the "Be Thankful" stamp quite a bit.

White Swirl Pumpkin

We're revisiting a post from last year. Its a super easy project that I look at everytime I go into our office and I really do love the look of it. Loved it last year when I made it and I still love it. Thats a great project- when you still like it a year later. ;)

I started out with an inexpensive white pumpkin from Target. You'll want to be careful and get one that looks as real as possible without looking cheap. I didn't look at their pumpkins this year so I'm not sure what their supply was like this year. Although as much as I like this one I should have made another one.

I wish I would have paid attention to how many packages of swirls I used but I had been buying packages whenever I found them on sale at Michelas, Hobby Lobby and Wal Mart. Where ever I was I would pick them up. I bought alot of them from the dollar bins at different stores.  I love bling and knew that if I didn't use them on this pumpkin I would use them on scrapbook layouts or cards. Bling never goes to waste here! So I sat down with my white pumpkin and all of my bling and sat to work. This is the super easy part. I picked what I wanted for the front side of the pumpkin and started putting the bling on. All of the swirls I used were self adhesive so I just peeled the swirls off the backing and laid them on the pumpkin. I kept placing them until I had the pumpkin covered and then I took it and gently patted all the swirls with my hands. It just helps them stick a bit better. And then your done! So easy and a great addition to your fall decor.

Fall reminds us to be thankful for our blessings and family is our biggest blessing of all. This stamp set is perfect for those that love fall and the many small blessings that come with it. I have to confess, I don't love to rake leaves but I do love going on a walk with my sweet husband and walking thru the leaves and hearing them rustle. If truth be told I probably drag my feet a bit to make them rustle even more. Its one of the small pleasures of the season.

I tried stamping the words in Coca ink and using Autumn Terracotta for the word FALL and Olive ink for FAMILY. I really liked the way it turned out. But I wanted to make several of these and this would take a while so the next one I just used Autumn Terracotta ink.

And then I tried one with just Cocoa ink. I really like all three. Add a bit of twine and some pearl gems and you have a frame that would be a great hostess gift for the wonderful women that slave in the kitchen to feed their families a wonderful meal.

Huntington Workshop On The Go Layout 1

Today I used the Huntington Workshop On The Go and love it. This paper is very versatile and even tho it has fall colors it can be used for many different types of photos. Fall is my favorite time of the year so I went all fall with this layout. The leaf stamps are wonderful and I used 2 different ink colors on each leaf. This time of year all the leaves have more than one color. I live in the midwest and we're losing leaves fast but the ones sticking around are beautiful!

Another great thing about the Workshop On The Go kits is that the stamp sets are exclusive to the kit. You can't buy the stamp set with out the kit. So if you like the stamp set you'll want to get the kit right away.

Don't you just love these stamps?!!!! I certainly do! For the leaves it's super easy to get the 2 tone effect. I used Autumn Terracotta, Creme Brulee and Olive inks. Just a little tip, use the lightest color of ink first and then gently roll the edges of the leaf stamp in the darker color. You don't want to get the dark color ink in your ink pad.

Give Thanks For All You Have Layout

Just a quick and easy layout for a class this week. I love that it doesn't cost alot to make a great looking layout. This layout takes 1 sheet of Huntington paper and about 4 1/4 sheets of cardstock. No stickers or embellishments. Just a quick, easy and inexpensive layout. The Happy Autumn Stamp Set is a perfect addition to this paper and can be used for so many projects.

Huntington Flip Album

I'm in love with the Huntington paper pack. Fall is my favorite season and this paper pack is everything I love about fall. The flowers, the colors, the swirls - oh my! There's so much to love with this paper pack.

The Bronze Shimmer Trim is a perfect addition to this paper. The Mini Medley Rosewood Collection adds a great touch too. And sometimes I don't have alot of time for stamping so the Huntington Stickease makes a project quick and easy. Its hard to finish a project without a little bit of stamping so I did stamp "Give Thanks for All You Have" on one banner. I used the Happy Autumn stamp set. You'll see that stamp set again soon! This is a great coffee table album or it would make a perfect table top display.

Sarita Layout 2 So Lucky

This is a layout from the Sarita Workshop on the Go and it goes together really quick. I have to say I love the colors orange and purple but I don't usually use them when scrapbooking. And I would never have thought to add blue to the mix but it works for this layout. I'm in love with Workshops on the Go! They make scrapbooking quick and easy and they do all the hard work for you. And really, who has the time to re-invent the wheel everytime we sit down to scrapbook.

There's lots of room for photos and with just a few embellishments the focus is on your photos and not the layout itself.

Sarita Layout 1 Today

Sorry for the terrible pictures but my point and shoot camera broke on vacation and I haven't been able to replace it. I thought to save money I'd use an old camera I had left laying in a drawer. Ummm, bad mistake! It takes terrible pictures. Technology really does make a big difference in the quality of photos.

It was fun working with the Sarita paper pack. You just have to be happy when you work with orange paper. And when you put orange paper and circles together than I'm having fun. Guess you could call me a paper geek :) It doesn't take much to make me happy and fun paper just makes my day. So this layout was fun from the start. I usually like working with the Workshop on the Go because everything you need to make amazing layouts is in one easy kit and you get a great stamp set that only comes in that Workshop on the Go.   You can use the stamp sets with the coordinating Artiste Cricut Cartridge or you can trim around the stamps yourself. Easy peasy!

I love so many products from Close To My Heart so I'm not sure how I've never tried the Card Workshop on the Go. It's such a quick and easy way to make cards. And the best part is, all the hard work is done for you.

Everything you need to make 15 beautiful cards is included plus an exclusive stamp set you can only get in this kit.

Happiness Lives Here Frame

As soon as I saw this white frame with chicken wire I knew it would be a project I'd make right away. Just let me say "I LOVE IT!" There are so many possibilities with this frame and because I used the little clothes pins from the kit I can change things anytime I want. The Design Decor Frame kit gives you so many options to make it just right for you and your pictures. Just let me say, I have soooo many pieces left to use on other projects. It's definitely worth the money!

The stamp set in this kit is wonderful, I'll be using it on other projects I'm sure. I did use a couple other stamp sets from Close To My Heart to go with the pictures I used. These are pictures from our vacation in Minnesota, the house we rented had a boat and we spent alot of time on the boat. It made for some great pictures and even better memories. As you can see the dogs LOVED the boat.
I embellished the frames with a little bit of this and that I had left from other projects. I used a few sparkles on a the frames that have Erica and Minnie in them and I used a Blush ink pad and changed the Ribbon Rosette to the color I needed for our family picture. I also had a few Artisan Studs left from a project and added them to Tyler and PP's picture. I had some buttons in my stash and used them for Roger and PP's pictures. I also used left over twine from the "Family" banner to tie around the picture of PP and the sunset. It's a great way to use up the scraps you have left from other projects.

Kraft Container From Pajama Party

I'm a little late posting my version of the Kraft Container from the Big Picture Pajama Party that was sponsored by Close To My Heart. But being late seems to be a normal thing lately. And if you know me thats not my normal. So lets get back to my version of the container we made during the pajama party.

The lid comes off the top and you can put fun gifts, candy, gift cards or any small surprises inside. I love the Color Ready Wooden shapes as accents and you can't go wrong with fun twine. I use the Frame Flair stamps alot and you can use them so many ways. I like to use them for journaling spots, although I do have to confess I am HORRIBLE at journaling. I did stay pretty true to the design but I used flowers instead of butterflies. Somedays you just don't want to re invent the wheel!

Life Is Good- Buzz and Bumble

Orange isn't just for fall, when I see this layout I think spring fun. But this layout can be used for either season. I used the A Tree stamp with the butterflies that come in the stamp set. I love using stamps, you can make them fit any paper by changing the ink color you use.

I love using the Perfect Fit Frames stamp set, you can use them for cards or layouts. And so many sentiments and images fit inside the frames. There are so many possibilities. Of course the Cricut Art Philosophy Cartridge has all of the frame images on it.The Durables Artisian Studs were a fun addition to add to the edges of  Milepost Shapes. And the best part is the Mile post shapes are in the While Supplies Last section and are on sale for only $1.00 for 48 pieces! I flip them over and stamp on the flat side of the shapes.

Buzz and Bumble- So Happy

As you've noticed I've neglected my blog again. But it's my summer goal to blog twice a week, but lets be honest, it's summer and life happens so it may be once a week. But keep checking back you never know when I'll get on a roll and surprise you!

The "Happy" layout is from a few months ago and was a super easy and quick one to put together. The best kind when your in a hurry. And getting layouts done is our goal. This Buzz and Bumble paper pack is so versatile. You can use it for so many events and the striped paper just makes me happy.

The A Tree stamp set is a cute addition and can be used for a spring, outdoors, heritage or just a fun addition to your layout or card. The Burlap Ribbon is a fun embellishment too, and its so easy to work with. The Milepost banner shapes are no longer available but they made a quick banner. This quick and easy layout makes it perfect so you can spend time making more memories.

Happy Fathers Day!

Happy Fathers Day to all the fathers out there. I know so many amazing men that are wonderful fathers too. My Dad, my very special husband and my brothers are amazing Dads. They love their families and are great providers and wonderful examples for their kids.

My Dad is a plain and simple man who doesn't ever pretend to be something he isn't, what you see is what you get. He's from a time when many husbands divorced their wives and the kids at the same time. He has said many times that one of his greatest accomplishments is that he didn't divorce his kids. He was a great dad that was always there for us. We got to spend every other weekend with him and we had fun shooting guns, fishing and spending time at the park. It has been my honor to care for him as he slowly went blind and has completely lost his sight and since a heart attach has taken its toll on his health. Love you Dad!

Roger is the most amazing example of what a dad should be. He loves his kids above all else, except the Lord and has sacrificed for his family is ways we don't even realize. He's always there for them and even when he's tired he helps Tyler around his house and yard and will do whatever "Daddy Do" list Erica has for him when we're at her apartment. We've always appreciated him but this May he gave us a scare when he had chest pains and thru a visit to the ER, an ambulance ride to Mercy hospital and an angiogram we were so happy to find out his heart is in good shape. But the scare of losing him has made us appreciate and love him all the more. He is a man worthy of respect, admiration and great love from his family. We love you Roger!

Happy Anniversary

Today is our anniversary. Where has 30 years gone? We were so young when we married, I was 18 and Roger was 24. When your crazy in love you don't see a thing wrong with graduating from high school on Wednesday and getting married on Saturday! Oh My, what were we thinking.

But some how it worked for us and the Lord has blessed us! It hasn't always been easy but its always been worth it. We tell so many kids thinking about getting married that it's hard work. REALLY hard work. But when you get to the other end of a rough patch it makes it so worth it. We're closer, more in love and we've grown together when we work thru a difficult time together. Some times I think you have to be crazy stupid in love to make it thru the hard parts. And the Lord has blessed us with being Crazy Stupid in LOVE with each other!

Creativity: Now and Always

This is a letter that our Close To My Heart  founder Jeanette Lynton wrote in regards to recent news about the paper crafting industry.

Creativity: Now and Always

"Within the past month, paper crafters have heard and seen some hard news—well-known industry names have announced bankruptcy or removed their scrapbooking lines. It may leave many wondering what the future is for our beloved pursuit of memory keeping and creativity. As the CEO and Founder of Close To My Heart, I have many thoughts on the topic and wanted to share a few with you.

First off, preserving our memories is NOT a fad. It's one of the most important things we do in our journey here on earth, and it's as key as breathing and as sustainable as family. In the past few years, we have seen scrapbooking come into the spotlight and many flocked to set up shop and design products to capitalize on it. While we at Close To My Heart have welcomed the focus on scrapbooking over the past few years, we know that even when the hubbub fades, the core and relevance underneath the hype remains. I have been in the industry for nearly 30 years—LONG before it was "trendy"—and plan to be in this essential industry for decades to come.

Because Close To My Heart will be here for the long-term, we have run our business differently than many others. We are not leveraged to the hilt or financed by outside investors. I have always believed in organic, cash-based growth, and the simple provident rule of spending less than I earn. It's a principle I've applied to business and it's ensured that Close To My Heart operates profitably. We have been profitable month after month, year after year. Our credit rating is excellent, and this protects our commitment to delivering a wealth of diverse, beautiful products at competitive prices while providing secure commission checks for our Consultants, employees, and vendors.

Second, yes, the industry is changing. I welcome and embrace that! In my 30 years in business, I have seen many changes and they almost always yield fresh directions, new products, and a new crop of crafters. Change always brings opportunity! I have long said that as long as little girls are born with hands, they will want to create. I am grateful to be a part of such an important contribution to society and know that this will continue.

Ultimately, I invite everyone—whether you are an existing Consultant or customer, a past purchaser, or even if you have never purchased a Close To My Heart product—to get to know us again for the first time. Close To My Heart is strong. Papercrafting, memory keeping, and creativity are more important than ever before and we provide unique, diverse products for every style and ability of crafter.  Close To My Heart is committed to scrapbooking, and if it's a passion you share, then YOU ARE WELCOME HERE."

I'm so proud to be a part of this company that has a founder and leader like Jeanette. Her heart is always focused on the well being of the people in her company and she has the business mind to run a very successful and thriving company.

Later Sk8r Card

I knew I liked this paper when I first saw it in the Idea Book. It's papers are very distressed and rugged, just like little boys! I needed a very quick card for my nephew and although I haven't shared all my layouts on here I've used all of my Later Sk8r paper and all I had left were scraps. So I gathered all the scraps I had and came up with this card.

If your short on your favorite paper but want to use up the scraps like I did you can make your paper go farther by using cardstock. The base of my card is grey cardstock because the grey diamond paper on the bottom wasn't long enough to fit across the whole card. I also put a small strip of white cardstock between the grey diamond paper and the green patterned paper because I was short on the green patterned paper and I really wanted to use both papers on this card.  I think the white strip ended up working great, it gives a visual divider between the two patterned papers. And it brings in a third section of white which visually balances the card. I added a few green and blues sparkles because you just can't have enough sparkle!

Happy Mothers Day

I hope everyone had a Happy Mothers Day. My wonderful family made sure I had a great day. Saturday started with Hubbalicious bringing me a beautiful bouquet of roses.

Sunday both of the kids were here and we had a great breakfast together and we were able to get some pictures outside. It was windy and very chilly but we braved the cool weather. The kids usually hate doing pictures but on Mother's Day and my birthday they indulge me with just a few eye rolls.

We were all trying to smile and not shiver so we got the pictures done as soon as possible. We even got the dogs in the picture too.

My family knows my favorite candy and I usually get a bag of Lindor Chocolates but this year they hadn't talked to each other about what they were getting me.

And thats how I you get 9 bags of chocolates for Mothers Day!

I was able to spend some time with my Mom today too. She had fun telling stories about when I was young.

She always has selective memory when she tells stories of when us kids were young.  :) We get a good laugh from it everytime.
I hope you all had a wonderful time with your families!

Such A Lovely Day Layout

I haven't used non Close To My Heart paper since I became a consultant. Not for any other reason than I love our paper. The quality is wonderful and it cuts like a dream with the Cricut. But I had this paper and layout planned long before I became a CTMH consultant. I've been trying to use up old papers and get some scrapbooking done. I love it when you get out old papers and realize you still really like them. And I still REALLY REALLY love both of these papers.

A couple friends know I'm not a big bird lover. I like birds in my yard but not on my scrapbook pages. But these birds are sweet and seem to go well. I have a key with a heart on the end and the word LOVE on it. I'm thinking I need to add that to the right side of the layout. Maybe a bit or ribbon too. I try not to go back and change layouts once I'm done with them but this layout just looks a bit plain. And it's not in my album yet so it's easy to change a few things.

Buzz & Bumble Hexagon Layout

The Buzz and Bumble paper pack has so many great papers. I knew it would be easy to design layouts using the papers. And the hexagon Honeycomb Stamps are so versatile. And the best part is that you can cut the hexagons with the Cricut.

I used the Choc Striped Ribbon to add some texture to the layout. This layout can work for any event and is quick and easy to put together.

Easter Chicks

How cute are these little chicks! Their from our Easter Wishes stamp set. As soon as I saw the stamp set I knew I'd be making something with it. The pink sentiment is " Its whats inside that counts! Happy Easter" and "Good things come in small sugar coated packages" How perfect are the sentiments that come with this set!

For little Easter treats these cute little paper bags are the best. The small Paper Pouch is perfect for little treats and the large bags are great for bigger treats. I love the Color Ready Seam Binding and how it will take the ink of any ink pad and become the exact color you need for your project. It just adds the perfect touch.

2nd Later Sk8r Layout

I'm loving the Later Sk8r Workshop On The Go. This is another layout I had fun with. With all the 2 sided papers it makes it so easy to change any layout to make it your own. The papers work great for little boys and big guys. Just a must have for so many guy pages.

For a fun touch there are green and blue Epoxy Bubbles in the center of the stars.

Chantilly Card/Candy Box

A few pieces of paper and the My Creations Card Box turns this ordinary white box into a cute Easter treat for someone special. A few flowers cut with the Cricut Artist cartridge and a Sparkles Flourish and your ready to decorate.

I folded the Chantilly paper to make dividers for the candy and wrapped a Reeses Egg, Hershey Nuggets and topped small Reeses peanut butter cups with circles. Add a little paper grass to the bottom and your ready to give a unique Easter treat.

For those that prefer to stay away from candy I made the same box and added cards to the inside. I decorated the 3x3 envelopes with a stamp from the Card Word Puzzle stamp set. I also used the same stamp set but a different flower to decorate the matching cards. I love frames so I used the Crafted With Love stamp set to make the frames and the sentiment on the front. I made several cards using inks that matched the colors in the Chantilly paper. I also decorated the RSVP pen from Wal Mart. It gives it a cohesive look and is so easy to cut a small rectangle of paper and slide it in the pen. Its a great gift for anytime.

Happy Scrapping,
